During this first term, students from the American International Section at Lycée franco-équatorien La Condamine took part in a wide range of engaging activities that placed English learning at the heart of meaningful cultural experiences.
Halloween: Learning English Through Fun
To celebrate Halloween, the International Section welcomed all primary classes for special English immersion sessions led by the section’s teachers. From the moment students entered the classroom, they were immersed in a festive atmosphere with Halloween music and interactive activities focused on vocabulary and cultural discovery.
In CP, students enjoyed singing Halloween songs, joining in with gestures and choruses. They also practised speaking by describing their favourite monsters, building confidence in oral English.
In CE1, students participated in hands-on craft activities, creating Halloween skeletons and ghosts. As they assembled their creations, they practised body-part vocabulary such as head, arms, legs and ribs, making language learning both fun and memorable.
All classes also took part in vocabulary games and Halloween trivia, earning treats while demonstrating strong listening skills and clear pronunciation.
Thanksgiving and Christmas: Language, Values and Creativity
Towards the end of the term, the International Section celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas through a rich programme combining language learning with cultural traditions.
In preparation for Thanksgiving, students learned about the history and meaning of the celebration, focusing on gratitude, sharing and helping others. They created Thanksgiving-themed artworks while using English vocabulary related to colours, emotions and thankfulness.
As Christmas approached, each level completed a project suited to their age and language level.
In CP, students prepared and performed a Christmas song in English.
In CE2, creativity and writing took centre stage as students designed Christmas cards and calendars with short messages in English.
In CM1, students explored values such as kindness and cooperation through a collage and a shadow play based on The Little Red Hen.
In CM2, students prepared and performed a Christmas dance, following instructions in English and working together as a team.
Across all levels, these festive projects reflected the International Section’s educational approach: bringing English to life through culture, creativity and meaningful learning experiences. They offered a joyful and engaging way to conclude the term.
